Rockgeist Barjam Bracket Voluntary Recall and Replacement
August 10th 2022
Rockgeist is voluntarily recalling brackets from the BarJam Harness. The reason is related to the bracket design that resulted in a small number (less than 1%) of brackets cracking or breaking during use. We are unaware of any injuries that have resulted, however, we don’t want to take any chances. We ask that you discontinue use of these brackets immediately. Your safety is a priority for us and we stand behind our commitment to provide high quality bikepacking equipment that stands up to the rigors of singletrack bikepacking with heavily loaded bikes.
BarJam bracket component for the following purchase dates; either size 31.8 mm or 35.0 mm purchased between September 12th 2021 through Aug 4th 2022. Brackets are labeled with the text “Rockgeist” in white lettering. Please see photo below.
Our Solution and What We Are Doing
We have stopped the manufacturing and distribution of BarJam Harnesses with the affected brackets. We are replacing your affected BarJam brackets with improved, re-designed brackets free of charge. We have worked with our local machine shop on a redesign of the brackets that has solved the design problem. The new bracket changed a bolt location and leaves significantly more metal in the bracket arm for a substantial increase in strength. The prototype has been completed and tested, and now we are waiting on the full production run. The improved brackets will still be made in Asheville, NC.
From our website customer database we have emailed all customers who purchased the affected brackets to confirm their shipping address to receive their replacement brackets. We are also working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to follow federal guidelines to correct this issue. We don’t anticipate any hangups to occur from the re-design, but if they do we will keep you in the loop.
What We Need From You
We ask that you stop using your BarJam Brackets while you wait for your replacement set to arrive. Please email [email protected] with your updated shipping address. This information will expedite the arrival of your replacement brackets. We don’t have an exact ETA on completion of the replacement brackets but we are working hard to get them shipped out as soon as possible. The current estimates are looking like late September or early October. As more production information is communicated to us we will send updates over email. The brackets are still being manufactured in our home city of Asheville, North Carolina.
What To Do With the old Brackets
Please dispose of your old brackets. We will not be emailing labels to return them to Rockgeist due to the high cost of shipping (it would cost us about $3,500 USD to get all brackets back). However, we will attempt to recycle all brackets mailed back to our workshop. If you choose to return them instead of disposing them, please send them to our mailing address:

How to Contact Us
I can be reached at [email protected]. Just a heads up, we are a very small company (team of 8) and I am the only person answering emails. Thank you in advance for your patience as it might take a few days to get back to questions. If anything is urgent, expect a response from me as soon as possible.
I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. We are working hard to give the BarJam the credibility of being the strongest bikepacking harness on the market. We want you to be able to strap your packrafts, overstuffed drybags, or any other heavy, unwieldy gear to this harness. This design change is a huge step in that direction and we appreciate your patience while we get you all the updated design.
