Additional information

Weight 0.8 lbs
Dimensions

Panel size is custom to your frame, spine width is ~ 2.35" for narrow steel tubing, and ~ 2.6" for larger tubing (aluminum and carbon frames). We do change spine width based on your frame and these numbers are just estimates.

If you would like a specific spine width please let us know in the comment field at checkout. Multiple spine widths are subject to an up-charge, please email bikepack@rockgeist with inquires.

Volume

Volume is dependent on the panel area and spine width of your framebag. Adding a flared nose adds about 0.75L of volume up at the nose of the bag.

Weight

Weight is dependent on the number of features added to your build and the fabric selected. Generally, the higher the number at the end of the fabric name the heavier the fabric (e.g., X50 is heavier then VX21) . More fabric details can be found on our fabric page.

Mounting Instructions

If your framebag contains velcro, please trim off any excess length. (We leave velcro long to ensure flexibility in wrapping multiple tube diameters). Any webbing can be trimmed if needed but please take a lighter to the cut end to prevent fraying.

For bolt on framebags please see the installation graphic below. The washers are mounted on the INSIDE of your framebag.

Please be aware that your framebag may wear the finish on your frame over time, especially at velcro locations. We recommend protecting your frame with helicopter tape to prevent this wear.

After discovering the bikepacking scene during the covid pandemic, I contacted rockgeist about getting a custom frame bag.

Throughout the order process I changed my mind about the design various times and asked lots of annoying questions. The Rockgeist team were always fast and helpful.

When it arrived to the UK, it exceeded my expectations. The fabric (RX-36) looks and feels great and the craftsmanship is brilliant too. They even fitted a surreptitious air tag holder!

  2. Carson Truesdell

Got a custom sewn bag in advance of a multi-week Bikepacking trip – couldn’t say enough positive things about the bag. I love the direct mount (very secure) and the fabric (durable). Yes it may not be marketed as waterproof, but I got rained on for 12hrs straight and the contents within the bag stayed dry. Rockgeist rocks!

Love the bag, the construction, and all the helpful feedback & coordination I got from the team. My only constructive commententary is the following— I wish the interior fabric was a brighter/lighter color, which creates contrast and makes it easier to find items (mine is a dark blue). Perhaps that will become standard in the future. I also wonder if it would be possible to have grommets on at least one of the sides when we do a double bolt on— I understand the wider openings allows for a good fit no matter what.

This thing is sturdy, fashionable, and is doing all the things I wanted it to on the trail! Thanks Greg & the whole team.

Just got my bag. The ordering process was smooth and simple, turnaround was faster than anticipated, and the bag itself is just awesome. The construction feels so solid and having a custom fit bag is such an incredible upgrade from awkwardly strapping a dry bag into the triangle. For day riding it’s already been fantastic, shifting the load of extra layers, snacks, etc. lower and into the middle of the bike rather than up on the bars or high up behind the saddle. But what I’m really eager for is putting this bag through its paces on some camping trips!!!

Just got my Custom Frame Bag, delivered ahead of schedule (a little) very well made and fits perfectly using after using the Photofit process. I could not be happier with my purchase.

I’ve had this bag since 2019 and it’s still going strong. It’s beautifully made, fits my bike perfectly and has put up with lugging heavy supplies over rough terrain with zero issues. I like everything about it. 100% recommended, when I eventually change frames I’ll definitely buy another one.

I ordered a custom bag and Rockgeist just made it happen! The bag is awesome and fits my bike perfectly. I’ve only used on a single five day bikepacking trip in Baxter State Park in Maine but the bag was up to the task for sure!

This bag has nice materials and excellent craftsmanship. The fit is perfect – it’s just found a permanent home on my Santa Cruz Chameleon. Note, I got 2′ of 3″ helicopter tape and it was just barely enough – I’d order 3′ if doing it again. Overall I’m stoked, this bag is perfect.

Just got my second custom bag from Greg. My first bag was for my 2019 Salsa Cutthroat, which fits and functions amazingly. The newest one is for my 2018 Cannondale Scalpel SE and once again a perfect fit. I can not recommend Rockgeist enough.

  10. Carl F (verified owner)

Perfect fit. Beautiful craftsmanship. Great communication when ordering. Very pleased with this frame bag. I already have a few Rockgeist bags and I will definitely order more.

  11. Amy

Super pleased with this bag. It fit perfectly on my bike and provided that extra bit of space I was needing to get all of my gear packed. The custom fit means you get every inch of useable space in the frame, and even when it’s packed tightly it’s streamlined for your particular bike’s geometry so it’s like its not even there.

  12. Logan Watts

Greg and team have made MANY custom frame bags for test bikes (and our own personal bikes) and they always fit beautifully; we’ve never had an issue with seam or zipper failure (one of which has multiple thousands of miles over 3-4 years)…

  13. Carver (verified owner)

I bought a custom Mudlust frame bag for my Karate Monkey about a year ago and I fill it up almost daily — it looks and functions perfectly! I’ve taken a spill or two and the bag is unscathed. The seams and zippers are bombproof and the XPAC is incredibly tough. The Mudlust has become a permanent fixture on my bike and I couldn’t imagine cycling without it.

  14. Jim Wolfe (verified owner)

I was amazed at how well my frame bag fit the triangle of my Giant XTC. I couldn’t have asked for a more thoughtful design, fit & finish!
My first bikepacking experience (Arizona Trail) was elevated by the versatility of the frame bag. All my tools fit in the lower triangle compartment and the main compartment was extremely versatile for experimenting with packing different types of gear (my overall water carrying capacity was not sufficient for the trail but the main compartment handled a 2.5L plastic water container with no trouble). I am AMAZED at how much gear my Mudlust can carry!
Thank you so much for advancing the science and art of Bikepacking!

I have a small, weirdly-shaped space on my Stache, with a steeply tilting top tube and curved seat tube that no “off the shelf” bag could fit. So after reading the reviews, the options, and the looks I decided to give Rockgesit a try. Glad I did! The fit on the frame bag is perfect. He nailed it. He made a small change to lift the bottom a little to account for a cable exit at the bottom of the downtube, and it fit to a T – no stress on the cable at all. I really like the lace system on the top tube, it cinches up nice and tight. The holes for the bottle cage bolts are incredibly well aligned with the frame and (with the laces on the top tube) hold the bag tightly. I don’t know how he can do it from a photo, but it is impressive how well the bag fits. I don’t think it could be better if it was measured in person. Workmanship and quality are fantastic. Love it! Thank you!

my wife and i each have custom framebags, and they’re awesome. we just rode 600 miles across spain, and we stuffed those bags full to the brim every time we left a town and never had any issues with zippers or any kind of seam tears. on my size large surly troll i carried a 2L pot with MSR whisperlite stove nested inside, spare tube, small repair kit, several pieces of fruit, blocks of cheese, nuts and snacks for the day, a small wool beanie and coffee – and that’s just in the main compartment. the map pocket held a lot of smaller flat items too. the point is that the frame bags are cavernous and hold up extremely well when packed to the lid. the photo fit option is super handy, and it’s really cool to see just how dang snug it fits from a simple photo. along with all of this, greg is a super nice guy and treated us very well with the bags we ordered and is a great person to have in the bikepacking community. thanks so much man!

  17. Tom

Greg made me a custom frame bag for my bike that has a curved top tube and it fits like a glove. AND he did it from just a picture! His craftsmanship is as good as it gets. And he does it from a picture.

  18. Eric Wever

The mudlust framebag has become one of my favorite pieces of gear! The large YKK zipper is very easy to open and close while on the bike and my gear stays dry even during heavy downpours and quick dunks underwater during river crossings. The materials and construction seem to be of the highest quality possible. The photofit instructions were easy to follow and the bag fits my custom steel frame perfectly. The bolt-on option is really nice also and provides a very clean look.

I have been looking for a custom frame bag for my Salsa Mukluk. It has unique curvy geometry. I had a hard time pinning down other custom guys. Greg responds promptly and finished the bag on time. The bag fits like a glove! Quality of the bag is outstanding.

  20. Michael C.

Being new to bike-packing, I needed a frame bag for my bike’s rather odd-shaped frame. No major manufacturer produced an item that fit my needs. I found Rockgeist on the web, communicated directly with Greg, (the owner) about what I needed, sent in a template, and couldn’t be happier with the product I received.
The frame bag was produced exactly to the specs I provided, is made of high-quality, abrasion-resistant materials, and fits my bike like a glove. The waterproof zipper is indispensable, and it’s angled zipper-garage is a nice touch. The bag has internal padding which holds it’s structure well, and all webbing is stitched internally, giving the outside of the bag a clean look.
This bag has been an integral part of numerous successful trips and continues to hold up well, despite some harsh conditions and a few unfortunate dismounts.
All in all, and perhaps more noticeable than the great features and durability, is the craftsmanship of the bag. It’s obvious that Rockgeist is a company that cares about the construction quality and trail-worthiness of their products. I’m looking forward to many more years of use from this well-made frame bag.

Goodbye camelbak – Hello Mudlust. This frame bag is tough, functional and looks badass. Greg was great in guiding me through the custom options for the bag. The whole process was very fast and Greg couldn’t be friendlier. My bike bag arrived in the mail shortly afterwards and ever since I’ve had it on my full suspension frame. I’ve ridden through the wettest Pisgah has to offer with this bag on my frame. It keeps the contents dry and protects them from mud and grime. I have a 1 1/2 liter hydration bladder in the bag, tools, keys and a map when I ride – with storage space left over. If you are tired of having that heavy pack dig into your shoulders all ride, get your Mudlust on and ditch the backpack. Highly recommended and a great company.

When I got my new bike last year the first thing I did was dial up Greg for a new Mudlust and as usual I was not disappointed. I had a number of custom touches built in and the thing has been bombproof. Even overstuffing it like I usually do (those tallboys take up more room than you think) it has stayed solid as a rock. Quick spray off at the end of any dirty ride and she shines like new.

I’ve used my Mudlust for about a year now. I have beaten this thing to death and it never gives up! Raced Cohutta Cat, Hurracan 300, Skyway Epic and about to race the Trans North Georgia. Wouldn’t consider anything else for my epic adventures!!

  24. Todd Denham (verified owner)

I’ve had the Mudlust bag for about a year now. Used it this year on the AZT and gave it a good pounding. I’ve always tended to overload bags and that trip was no exception. Despite unrealistic product expectations, it had no zipper or other issues at all. I’ve shown it to other bikepacking buddies and the comments have consistently been of quality and features. Also, people have wondered how Greg managed such high quality at such a price point, sewn with his own hands largely if not completely. I also have his version of a gas tank and feedbag which are of the same quality. You’re looking in the right place for your gear!

  25. Ed Pfromer (verified owner)

Love this bag! We bought two for our bikepack trip of the Colorado Trail, and they took a beating. We had a really wet July and both were covered with mud, but open and closed without any issue. A quick hose down after and they are like new. True mudlust!

  26. charles.hield

I’ve had this bag close to 3 years and it’s like brand new… minus all the mud! Seriously though, this bag is awesome, well built, and has stood up to everything I can throw at it (or in it!).

Frequently Asked Framebag Questions

Can I add custom features?

Absolutely. Take advantage of made to order gear and make it personal.

Can you describe the features in the drop down menu?

To see a discription and pictures of every feature please head to the Framebag Features page.

Can I do a seat tube or top tube bolt-on?

Absolutely. Please add that feature in the Framebag Extras category

What does "Monthly Capacity Reached" mean?

The level of customization, quality, and attention to detail requires a generous time commitment for each custom framebag we make. This creates a great product, however, it is challenging to scale our services to meet the demand. To serve our customers better, there is a limit on how many framebag orders we accept each month.

If you see the “Monthly Capacity Reached” notice on the custom framebag product, please check back on the 1st day of the next month to place your order. Capacity limits will be reset by the 1st of each month. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

When will my framebag ship?

Please see the lead time posted on the gear pages to get an idea of when your gear will ship. While lead times are an estimate, serious effort goes into keeping those estimated times accurate.

Do you have a photofit template of my bike already?

Please send your photofit picture even if you’re certain Rockgeist has that template already. Reason being is that two “identical” bikes from the same brand, model, size, and year can have different cable routing, one with a front derailleur, mud guard, a different brand of rear shock, etc.

Framebags are built to be optimized to your exact bike, down to the smallest of details which are all captured in your photofit picture.

Can you make a framebag from a spec (CAD) drawing?

While there are many ways to make a framebag, making them from a spec drawings is not our method. We’ve ran into too many issues where the spec drawing did not match the physical bike (for example moved bolt holes). Rockgeist only uses our PhotoFit method. This creates the most efficient process on our end and helps keep lead times as low as possible.

Which international countries do you ship to? How much is tax and duty?

Rockgeist ships world-wide, simply select your country during checkout. If your country is not listed, please email [email protected] to receive a quote.
