Big and Little Dumplings are a 100% waterproof fanny pack. For longer day missions, quick-access to camera gear, or just a bit more storage for bikepacking setups.

Dumplings are not only ideal for keeping cameras dry but also for keeping these sensitive electronics off the bike to protect them from harsh trail vibrations.

Big dumpling is the larger of the two dumplings. Extra layers, food, phone, and other electronics carry exceptionally well in this waterproof bag. Big dumpling is the ideal size for storing your DSLR, full frame camera. If you use a mirrorless full frame camera an extra lens can also fit.

Little Dumpling is best sized for a cropped sensor camera (e.g., APS-C) or film camera. Basic trail riding tools, phone, and snacks fit best in Little Dumpling.

Standard features include:

  • Roll-top/flap closure, no zippers to fail
  • Seam-welded construction for a 100% waterproof bag
  • Bungee closure doubles as convenient layer stash location
  • Internal cell phone/wallet sleeve
  • Removable plastic strap keepers to prevent hip straps from flapping in wind
  • Structured hip wings for optimal load carrying
  • MOLLE webbing along hip wings allows addition of compatible accessories
  • Front/Bottom accessory loops for adding carry straps for layers, knee pads, etc.
  • Closed-cell foam & 3D mesh back and hip padding
  • Made in Asheville, North Carolina

amazing. It has been 2 years. Used and abused. Still love my big dumpling. Everything is strong and clever : the « locking straps » are useful, the molle loops also usefull (to clip on a light) and it fit my camera with a foam insert perfectly. It is now the home of my camera all year long. I may buy another dumpling just for bikepacking. Keep up the good work, best regards from France.

Very spacious and comfortable bag. I wear it around my waist or across my body while biking. I keep my Sony a7 III with a lens with space for more. Easy to access and grab my gear out quickly. Great bag

I’ve been using lumbar packs since 1994, starting off with a green LL Bean pack now battle-worn and covered in patches that I even had to replace the YKK zipper on after years of hard use and abuse. Then I got the ubiquitous red Mountainsmith Tour lumbar pack in the late 90’s when working for a few years as a full-time medic in the backcountry. Since then, I’ve accumulated another 6 lumbar packs from Patagonia, Simms, and Tenkara mainly for packing fly-fishing gear in, with each lumbar pack specifically filled with fishing gear for whatever species I was targeting. You would think that Simms would have dialed in a waterproof lumbar pack for folks standing in the middle of a river fly-fishing for salmon or trout in Alaska or BC a long time ago, right? Only recently have they come out with waterproof packs, but made overseas and with a steeper price tag. The thought of having a waterproof lumbar pack crossed my mind almost every day I fished since 2015 as I would have to dump all my gear out of my pack at the end of the day to dry out as I almost always waded into deep water. Then I saw a video recently from Tristen who broke down his gear list and showed off his Big Dumpling pack and how he stashed his drone, other electronics, and hid his passport and wallet underneath it all. He mentioned he wore it while riding to dampen the shock out of his electronic gear by having it on his waist instead of attached to the bike. He also said he’d wear it with his lightweight backpack when out exploring new towns when off the bike. I was instantly sold and cannot believe I haven’t come across something like this years ago. And to know that this lumbar pack is built solidly by hand in the USA makes me feel better spending my money keeping other Americans working. Well done ROCKGEIST! I’ve got you on my shortlist of smaller companies that I spend my money at after giving up on REI after being a loyal customer their for 30 years. This will be the go-to lumbar pack that will go with me on my second solo trip down the entire Yukon River next spring as well as my bikepacking trip starting immediately after finishing the Yukon, riding from Prudhoe Bay all the way down to Antelope Wells, NM. From there, it’s off to cycling Japan and then all over Europe. Perhaps this pack will evolve and someday have something like the Strapette EVO for even more functionality for bikepacking. Regardless, I am stoked that this pack is now my main go-to lumbar pack where I don’t have to be concerned about damaging the expensive stuff I have stashed inside from the threat of water.

I’ve had a big dumpling for a couple years now, and I absolutely love it. it swallows up my rain jacket, insulated layers, my camera, pump, snacks, with room to spare. Its a really simple design that makes it easy to access your stuff and there’s no need to worry about clogging up zippers since this bag doesn’t have any.

What to Pack in Dumpling Hip Packs?

hipack pack list

Dumplings are a great place to pack camera gear for quick access or other electronics that can’t get wet. For food we recommend to use Dumpling to pack snacks that cant get wet like baked goods, sandwiches, etc.

One of Bikepacking.com’s Cass Gilbert’s favorite bikepacking bags.

Thanks to its stability and easy of access, it’s by far my favourite hip bag for carrying a large mirrorless camera, especially in inclement weather.
