The VISTA is a 300 mile unsupported bikepacking adventure. It has some the best singletrack, vistas, gravel, and roads that Cherokee National Forest and the surrounding area have to offer. Spanning several mountain ranges and watersheds, this loop starts and finishes on the banks of the Hiwassee river in Reliance, Tenn.
Reliance is the home of Hiwassee Whitewater Company/Flip Flop Burgers, Hiwassee Outfitters, and the iconic Webb Bros. Float Service, Inc. There are many historical sites and side trips along the route. It also passes through the heart of an Amish community, Amish market, and a winery. This route abounds with primitive and fee camping, lodging, and resupplies. Some of the singletrack trails included are at Chilhowee, Starr, Smith, Unicoi, Slyco, and Tanasi.
This route should NOT be underestimated if you choose to ride the whole length of the route at one time. It was purposely designed so it can also be broken down into segments for riders just getting into the sport of bikepacking, or riders who just want to tour one segment at a time.
If 300 miles just isn’t enough for some of you, then The MOUNTAIN 420 will be. It is an expanded version of the VISTA 300. It ventures deep into the Cohutta’s and Chattahoochee National Forest. The two main outposts along this route are Hiwassee Whitewater Company/Flip Flop Burgers and Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-A-Way. The additional singletrack included in the 420 is Mountaintown creek, Pinhoti 1, 2,3,4, and Dennis Mill sections.
The suggested group start for the Vista 300 and the Mountain 420 is on May 19th, 2018 at 9:00am. The start will be in the parking lot at Hiwassee Whitewater Company.
This ride will be on Trackleaders. Carrying a spot and being tracked is not mandatory, but encouraged. If you want to have your time recorded, you just need to send Chilhowee Outdoors your GPX file for verification if you choose not to sign up on trackleaders.
